We only offer the highest quality fire-rated and acoustically transparent material available, which is
manufactured by Guilford of Maine.
Do you sell monitor stand versions of Cylinder Traps?
Is a minimum order of Cylinder Traps required?
No. However, we highly recommend, at minimum, referring to our
Cylinder Trap Setup Guidelines Page before placing an order. As with
any acoustic treatment solution, a fair
number of strategically placed absorbers that are the correct sizes are required in order to expect any relevant
sonic improvement. The amount and sizes of Cylinder Traps are highly dependant on the user's environment and his or her goals.
What are the typical shipping costs?
Can I "decouple" my room using a ring of Cylinder Traps?
No, not completely! As with any tube shaped trap, the smaller the diameter of the trap, the
higher the cutoff frequency will be. For example, inside a ring of 9" traps, the frequency response curve
below approximately 150 Hz will remain relatively unchanged from outside the ring of traps, but will typically
have a uniform gain increase of around 3 dB. This is a critical frequency
range where many rooms suffer the most. Above 150 Hz, the gain increase tends gradually fall off when the
absorptive sides of the traps are facing inward. In this scenario, this problem area is often
accentuated.
Are more Cylinder Traps needed than panel-type traps to achieve the same performance?
The important question is whether or not more
volume of Cylinder Traps are needed? The answer to that
question is no, as long as the
Ingredients For
Effective Low Frequency Control are applied, just as they are with other designs.
More physical Cylinder Traps
may be needed depending on the goal, but keep in mind that the bulk of
Cylinder Traps within a properly acoustically treated room will typically be much narrower in width than
typical panel-style traps. In other words, the room most likely would not be filled with only 20-inch
diamter Cylinder Traps; there would be a combination of different sized traps, the smaller sizes having
the highest number count.
Our own reference recording room, which is on the small to medium side, typically contains close to
forty [40] Cylinder Traps. If we were to achieve "comparable" performance in that room using another type
of broadband absorber from another manufacturer, we would most likely have forty or more of their traps in there.
If those traps happened to be panel-style traps, they would end up covering more of the room's surfaces.
Is there anything special about the Cylinder Trap's cylindrical/tubular shape?
What other treatment products, if any, outperform Cylinder Traps?
We own (and use) some of our competitor's acoustic treatments, and based on our own extensive measurements,
we have not found another acoustic treatment device that "outperforms" our Cylinder Traps. By outperform,
we are referring to overall absorption capability in total Sabines. Furthermore, we have found that our Cylinder
Traps perform better in some key areas compared to at least one other competitive product. One of these key
areas includes higher absorption capability below 100 Hertz.
Note: We are not including the additional feature of tuneable poly diffusion in the above comparison. This
particular feature of Cylinder Traps can significantly add to their total performance capability.
Have Cylinder Traps been measured by an impartial third party?
Not yet, but we do intend on eventually paying for this service. We expect the results
to fall in line with our measurements, as we have peformed extensive comparative testing and measurements
ourselves in various environments and scenarios using high end recording equipment.
